FAQs

Though every trailer is different, there are a number of questions we regularly receive from prospective and existing customers.  The most common ones are detailed below.

1. Lead time?

~ always depending on current production and how complex the job is, usually between 2 - 10weeks.

2. Delivery Y/N & delivery fee?

~ yes we do delivery; Auckland area $120 - $250 + GST; Whangarei $500 - $600 + GST, Wellington $980 + GST, Picton $1500 + GST

3. Tiny house trailer flooring platforms. What exactly are they?

~ What we call a’ sub-floor flooring frame’ or ‘deck’ is a steel frame that takes the place of a traditional wooden sub-floor, which of course comprises wooden bearers on which are laid wooden joists which are normally at a spacing of 450mm or 600mm. We use steel because its lighter, cheaper and is lower than the wooden equivalent, and it's much easier to attach stabiliser jacks to, which are often required. Please see attached picture of the trailer. Normally builders simply screw plywood flooring directly to our frame and then build up from there.

4. Work shop visit?

~ We have trailers under construction continuously so if you are able to visit, you are very welcome to come in and inspect our work at: 115 Foundry Road, Silverdale.

5. Payment condition, entering production Queue?

Let us know if you are happy with the quote and I will arrange an invoice for you. After that, a deposit of 50% is required to get in our production queue.

6. Single axle, tandem axles or triple axle?

~ One axle for 1.8t, tandem axles for 3.5t, triple axles is for 3.5t and over.

7. Are breakaway brakes required on all trailers weighting over 2 tons?

~ No, cable brakes are cheaper and legal for up to 2.5 tons "gross vehicle mass" (GVM). Above 2.5 tons GVM you must have break-away brakes.

8. What is the typical height of the tiny home trailer chassis, before any flooring platforms? What is its height when you include the flooring bed?

~ the chassis alone is 530-550mm off the ground and when the sub-floor is included, the over-all height is 600-670mm off the ground.

9. For tiny home trailers: How durable is Pre galvanised box steel construction compared to hot dip galvanising?

~ If the location of the trailer is close to the sea, we recommend hot dipped galvinised (an additional cost will apply), but usually we built trailers from pre galvinised steel.

10. Can you suggest some design considerations we could consider to reduce trailer cost?

~ Yes, most of the time we can see cheaper, faster, and stronger ways to achieve what the customer wants.  We're good at that!

11. How much over the trailer width and length can a load such as a tiny home hang/extend?

~ The biggest trailer we can legally build has a deck of 11mx3.1m, but larger sizes can be built so long as you transport it on the back of a truck with a permit and and attendant pilot vehicles.

12. Warranty?

~ All our trailer come with a 10-year structural warranty.

13. With over-width loads such as a tiny home, is the "load" detachable from the chassis using hand operated lifting jacks?

~ Yes, all our over-width decks, including tiny homes are easily removable using fitted stabiliser jacks, but be very careful - a house on stilts can easily topple, so do one end at a time, then block it properly before lifting the other end.  Use an experienced builder to guide the process.

14. Do you sell these jacks, if so how much per jack?

~ Yes, we sell them, each stabilizer jack costs $170 + GST, which includes welding the receptor tubes to the trailer if you are buying the trailer at the same time.

15. What is the width of the trailer chassis, ignoring any "load" on top?

~ legally the over-all width including tyres cannot exceed 2.55m.  The chassis frame is a maximum of 2.0m over-all, unless it extends over the wheels in which case it can be up to the maximum of 2.55m.
